The Benefits of Installing Trees in Your Deerfield Beach Home

Have you been to the Deerfield Beach Arboretum also known as the Tree Zoo? If not, you are missing out on one of Deerfield’s treasures. The Tree Zoo is 9 acres in size and is owned by the city of Deerfield Beach but managed by The Friends of the Deerfield Beach Arboretum. In this wonderful space, there are over 50 different species of flowering trees waiting to be seen by you. But even if you don’t want to go sightseeing, it is a wonderful space to hang out with your loved ones.

Trees create a cool environment to hide under away from the sun and this is why trees have for long been a yard favorite for many homes. Here are some more benefits that trees will bring to your home.

Trees are good for your mental health

Tree Service

A study conducted in 2017 estimates that around 10% of the world population has some mental health disorder. That may not look like a lot of people but that’s around 792 million people. In fact, the highest rates were recorded for anxiety and for depression with those taking medication around 3.8% and 3.4% respectively. Those are huge numbers. Here is how trees help in promoting mental health:

Not only do trees positively affect our physical health, they can also improve our mental health. A large-scale Australian study found that residents of areas with at least a 30 percent tree canopy had a 31 percent lower risk of psychological distress than those living in areas with fewer trees. A study from Chungbuk National University in South Korea revealed that office workers who could see trees from their windows reported lower stress levels and higher job satisfaction levels. Trees will cool your home environment

Landscape design

If you are looking for a natural coolant for your home compound, go for trees. Trees have for long been known to aid in cooling urban spaces by their shade and through evapotranspiration. This provides a cheap and reliable way of providing a comfortable space while reducing living costs like air conditioning.

Trees and plants reflect sunlight and also release moisture through evapotranspiration. This helps cool the environment, and trees planted near homes can reduce the use of air conditioning by up to 30%. The shade and cooling reduce energy use and thus lead to a decrease in release of greenhouse gases, and improved air quality. Neighborhoods that lack canopy cover and parks become hotter, and so more dangerous during heat waves. The great majority of Portland’s population is found east of the Willamette River. Tree canopy cover is approximately 20% on our side of the river, and this rate is lower than that found in New York or Los Angeles.  The east side of Portland lacks the parks and natural areas like Forest Park that reduce heat accumulation. Westside neighborhoods have more than twice the tree cover found on the east side. . Read more from Roseway…

Trees make free organic matter for other plants in your lawn.

Landscaping mistakes to avoid

This is something you didn’t know about trees. Since trees have long roots, they are known to draw water and help those plants near them that have shallow roots. Also, trees that share a mycorrhizal network always send nutrients to each other and can send stress signals to each other. This means that the trees in the community empower each other:

Soil is made up of 4 things: water, air, minerals and organic matter. Organic matter is every living (worms, plants, beetles, microbes) and dead or decaying (worms, plants, beetles, microbes) thing in the soil, and it’s the most important part.

Plant roots (both living and decaying) make up the majority of organic matter, and when those roots die back, they feed the soil. This is why after giving your trees a prune, some excess roots will die, resulting in higher organic matter in the soil… and a flush of growth from the trees! Trees actually create the conditions needed for them to grow in the soil they’re planted in.

All this is great for your property, because healthy soils mean fewer pests, less disease, easier gardening and greener lawns. Read more from Subpod…
